Last night Neba's poor little butt on one side was all swollen and firm and she had this spot that looked like a blood blister from licking at it. Then about 3 this morning, it opened on it's own and it's been leaking first bloody, and now just brown gunk. The brown gunk almost looks like runny poop. When I try to blot it up, sometimes she cries. Is this a plugged anal gland? I've never had a dog have this problem before so I don't know. IF she doesn't stop leaking by tomorrow morning, I'm taking her to the vet.
Geez... the poor baby has a very bad boo boo. I would for sure take her to the vet asap. Id call the vet to ask advice in the mean time. I am sure neba will be ok.
She will be going to the vet in the morning and I've tried calling her favorite vet, but only got her machine. I put another diaper on her after we got home from the circus. My poor baby. I feel so bad for her. She was in Bill's chair for just a few minutes and leaked on it, so now I'll have to clean it. I wiped her butt and she cried a little and then I diapered her. Everyone is gonna laugh at her tomorrow going into the vets office in a diaper. Maybe I should put her pink shirt on her so it won't look quite so bad! Or her purple jammies with the sheep on them!! Anyway, the gunk is in the hairs of her tail and bum. I didn't notice that it was swollen back there yesterday until after we went to bed. It seems strange that something would come up this quick. I hope it isn't something serious and that we end up losing her.
Well, it was just a small spot, but still! She is at the vets right now waiting to be looked at. I guess there are a lot of scheduled farm calls this morning. Anyway, she slept in her jammies last night (she has never gone through the whole night in them) and her diaper and that's how she went to the vet this morning as well as being wrapped in a blanket. I knew she wasn't feeling right when she still had her jammies on and then when I tipped her on her back, she just laid there as if to say "I don't care what you do to me". She usually tries to turn herself back over. My poor baby! The tech's at the vet said it sounded like an abcess (EWWW!!), but the vet will have a look.
Ok, turns out it was an abcessed anal gland. She has had her butt scrubbed, she will have to have it scrubbed everyday, is on pills twice a day for 10 days and has to wear her diaper until it isn't draining anymore. And I bought the wrong size diapers for her!! Anyone need or know of someone who could use some Newborn, less than 10 pounds pampers?
Tell me about it!! Now I have to give her a pill twice a day, and scrup her butt once a day and keep her in diapers and jammies. I took her sweater off the change her and she started shivering!! She has yet to ask to have her clothes taken off.
Well, she's back to her old self! Fiesty as ever!! The only time her butt leaks is when I scrub, then it bleeds a little bit (just on the cotton balls), she's really good about it. Lets Morgan hold her without screaming, and she just squirms like a worm! She's been going bare butted during the day and I think that tonight she will do the same.
Well, now I have to call the vet again. Last night I noticed that her bum looked sort of red on that side. I take a look and theres another "hole" under the first one. One healed up and a new one sprouted. GRRRRRRRR!!!! It must have hurt, too when I cleaned it last night because she hollered, squirmed, and tried to bite me. Poor baby.
Oh yes, Neba is all better. I just forgot to post about it. I still have some "butt scrub" stuff left over incase we need it again. Now we just keep an eye on her knee that bothers her and we have meds for that, too. She can be such a trooper!
At least it it made out. It got a good cleaning. I hope the vet visit works out ok.
