Cookies

I just whipped up a batch of these and my fur kids seem to really like them.  I found them on the internet while looking for dog cookie recipes and I have to give the credit to Emerils.com

Dog Bones

1 cup white flour

1 cup wheat flour

1/2 cup wheat germ

1/2 cup dry/powdered milk

1 teaspoon brewers yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons chilled bacon drippings OR butter, rendered chicken fat or shortning

1/2 cup water (I ended up using closer to 2/3 cup)

1 egg, slightly beaten

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients.  Using a pastry blender, two knives or hands, cut in the fat of choice until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add water and egg and mix thoroughly.  Knead 2-3 minutes.  On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4" thickness.  Cut out cookies using bone shaped cookie cutter (or other shape).  Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 25-35 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned and firm.

"Makes: a lot!"- I ended up with about 5 or 6 dozen (I didn't count them!) using a small bone shaped cutter
