Simon's arthritis

We're getting to where we have to make some hard decisions about our senior girl Simon's future. Her arthritis has not responded to Cosequin, Rimadyl, Tramadol or Adequan injections. It's worse. She is almost 10 and getting frail and hurting. I don't want to have her knocked out and stretched all over for xrays to determine if bone cancer has taken hold where a year ago there was "just" arthritis. If it's bone cancer or arthritis, we'll treat the same way, since I don't want to subject this old girl to an amputation just to gain a few more months.

The vet is now offering us oral steroids to keep her comfortable. Since Simon can no longer keep up on walks, one of her favorite activities in this world, I think we're ready to go there. Anyone have thoughts on this or experiences to share? I'm not just giving up on my sweet girl, but I want her comfortable for as long as possible. She's already been through a lot.
