I have always wanted a pet greyhound. And for an early birthday gift my husband and I adopted one from The Lincoln Greyhound Park Adoption Center. From a very nice Lady June. On Feb 11th, 2003. His name is JJ Stinger. He is now 6 . He is such a big love. I am so glad he picked me for his new mom.
First we got our IG Neba, then we got an exracer who ended up having to be put down due to total kidney failure, then in June, 2005 we brought Oreo home.
Ours is kinda a long story. One day at our house we were getting ra new furnace put in put in. My mom likes to talk alot so she was disscusing about dog allergies with the guy and he said he had an italian greyhound and he didn't have any problems. This got my mom intrested and she thought to herself if the big greyhounds were just as good. By a remarkable stroke of luck, my mom met a woman walking her greyhound while my mom was on a walk and she asked if she could pet him. She even rubbed her face in his fur and she didn't have a reaction. So then my mom asked where she got this dog and the lady told her.
My mom then went to call the place and she got the papers to see if she would be a proper owner. Eventually we went to the kennle and fell in love with our first dog, Doctor doug. (yes I know my screen name is the same as his. ) So we took him home and everything worked pretty well. Besides of course breaking into home life. Eventually we felt Doug was lonley so we went and got him a friend and his name was wizard. And eventually we found out he was Dough's half nephew.
So after a few months we felt like going to the kennel for the fun of it without intention to adopt. Of course we fell in love with our third greyhound and our first girl hound Simon. We got her as a "foster with intention to adopt " We had some snarlig problems with her at first but now she's a good girl.
Yet another few months later, we heard that one of the dogs we looked at when we got Simon was getting deppressed because she was in the kennel for almost a year. Potato chip factory to the rescue! We adopted her again "fostering with intention to adopt" and got a new van to so she could fit. Our old one was breaking down anyway. We almost had to get rid of her because she would try ro eat our birds. Don't worry. They're caged when the dogs are around them. Luckily we got some help and now she could care less. The end.
P.S. My mom has just addmited that she was intending to get another dog when we went to the kennel and got Simon!
Dr Doug already told our story. I had to confess to him tonight that our trip to the kennel when we got hound #3 was not as innocent as DH and I made it out to be. We just didn't want the kids to get their hopes up if we didn't find a hound we couldn't live without!
We were turned down to adopt an Italian greyhound, because we worked, so we applied for a regular grey.
The adoption people called and we went to pick out a pup. We fell in love with Lola, a grey who had been given away by her previous family and had run away from the second family. After a vet visit, it was revealed that she had heartworms. They tried to talk us out of taking her, but it was too late. We had already fallen in love. We wanted her for however long she had left.
After alot of prayer and good vet, she was declared heartworm free after 6 months.
Nearly 3 years later, this girl is spoiled so rotten, and we can't imagine life before adopting her.
Hello!One time, wizard & Simon ran away!(just so you know, Simon is a girl,& Wizard is a boy.) So, one day,4pups was shoveling the driveway, and the dogs opend the door! They ran down the streets, jumped over the creek,and into a garage.The lady chased them out, & the chase was on again!Finally, the dogs fun was over.:wOOt:4pups caught up.She carried Wizard home,& Simon followed behind. THE END!
