A couple of days ago, I made the offer to have Oreo go into the school to help out in a Therapy Dog capacity to help the kids with their reading(the ones in the special reading class). Today, I spoke to the principal and was basically told that they had no interest at all in me doing this because of how he is filled with allergens and would make all the kids sick and that he is vicious!!!! Apparently, there have been numerous major complaints about me bringing him in the car on the very few occasions that I have picked up Morgan at school. I was also given the impression that while I am a poor parent because I don't help out with the parent/school group or anything like that, that me attempting to help out like this is totally unappriciated! Excuse me, what about the team of sled dogs they had in the gym a few months ago?? Not only do they have long hair in which allergens of all sorts hide, but I think that I have heard about how they have been known to bite. GRRRR!!!! People!! The more people I meet (and try to deal with), the more I love my dogs!
Lord love a duck!!!! I am so glad that my kid is 33 years old and I dont have to put up with that anymore. I have very unfond memories of snotty know it all parents and teachers/administrators who havent got the sense God gave geese. Remember that a lot of people (once again) can be very petty. You offered your help. They refused it for whatever reason. Their loss, their problem. Besides, How can anyone have a problem with the hounds riding to school with the kids?. Go figure
I know it! I guess they would rather have the soccer moms all sit around planning bake sales, etc., rather than have some real help with the poor kids who don't read very well. A lot of times, they would much rather read to a dog than to another human. Something about a dog that makes them feel more at ease. I just hope that they come to their senses and ask me next year to come in. Fageddaboutit!!!
My sister and her family live in France. When my nephew Remy was about 7 years old they were visiting. When a 7 year old gets quiet, look for trouble. It was very quiet and we found him sitting in the middle of a pile of comforters and greyhounds reading them a story and showing them the pictures too. The nice thing was is that the hounds were paying very close attention even though he was reading to them in French. See, hounds are not only good listeners but good babysitters too. I know that you are right about the dogs being good for the kids. It's been used befor in that capacity. Will see if I can reference it for you. Not that they are going to get the benefit of your generosity. See, bad behavior gets you nothing.
That's right!! See if I help them! Although, it would end up not helping out the kids, but still. And I'm certainly not the type of person to sit through bake sale meetings involving "The only type of pies we are selling this year are cherry and blueberry and the only cookies we are selling are oatmeal-no raisins, and chocolate chip." I'm sure that once we get Oreo through his CGC and TD tests, that somewhere, somehow we will get him a "job". Then I hope the local paper gets news of it and does a story on it!!!!!
Sat down to reference dogs assisting children to learn to read this morning. The first time I typed in subject it came back with 629,000 references. Enough said for it not being a viable learning tool. Once again, their loss!!!!!
